WSCGA Foundation Scholarship Information
The WSCGA Foundation not only supports the athletic dreams of our young golfers, but also their academic pursuits and talents through scholarship awards. All applicants fill out a general scholarship application, and the WSCGA Foundation Scholarship committee will decide which scholarship is best suited for the applicant based on her talents, extra-curricular activities, and academic goals. Scholarship renewal is dependent upon the student's good standing at her college or university. Applicants are not required to play on their college golf team, but GOLF SHOULD CURRENTLY BE - AND CONTINUE TO BE - AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE APPLICANT'S LIFE.

The general scholarship deadline is May 15 of each year. Scholarships are renewable each year, and recipients are encouraged to reapply as long as they are pursuing a degree. If you have any additional questions, please call (909) 592-1281, extension 212 or email info@wscgafoundation.org.

The Anne Trabue Scholarship Fund: English and Journalism
The first scholarship established by the WSCGA Foundation Board was the Anne Trabue Scholarship in honor of WSCGA's 'founding mother' and first President. Anne was also a noted journalist who wrote extensively about golf in Southern California in the first half of the 20th century. Her contemporaries described her as a woman of gracious charm, intelligent foresight and great patience. She was the driving force behind the organization of the Women's Southern California Golf Association. It was her firm but gentle hand that guided the association's first steps. She served as WSCGA's first President from 1922-1928 and again from 1937-38.

She was appointed as Advisor to the Board of the WSCGA for life, in which post she gave of her knowledge and experience until her death in November of 1957. She also received a lifetime membership in the Los Angeles Country Club for her outstanding interest and activity in the promotion of women's golf. In 1954, WSCGA honored Anne Trabue by creating a trophy in her name. The Anne Trabue Trophy is presented annually at the Southern Championship. The WSCGA Foundation again honors the legacy of Anne Trabue by creating a scholarship to assist a student who knows both the joy of writing and of golf.

The Bev Granger Scholarship Fund: Biological Sciences, Nursing, and Pre-Med
Hacienda Golf Club members and friends of Bev Granger gathered at Black Gold Golf Club to celebrate her life and partake in the game she so enjoyed. They felt the best way to honor Bev's memory was to establish a scholarship in her name. Led by the efforts of Hacienda member, Renie Bishop, over $15,000 was initially raised to start the Bev Granger Scholarship fund, and Hacienda Golf Club members continue to support this fund every year.

Not only was Bev an avid golfer, she was also an ardent tennis player and skier. A graduate of the nursing school at the University of Minnesota, she balanced family and career, working as an x-ray technician for forty-five years and raising three children. Fishing, tennis, skiing and golf were integral to her family's life. The Granger Scholarship applicant should demonstrate how her participation in golf and other sports is woven throughout her daily pursuits, balanced with an academic discipline.

The Mimi Deatherage Scholarship Fund: Law
Born and raised in Long Beach, Marion (Mimi) Deatherage practiced law and loved the game of golf. She attended Wilson High School, and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado before attending Southwestern School of Law. After graduation from Southwestern, she joined her father's law office. During the seventeen years she spent practicing law, Mimi found time to engage her passion for the game of golf. Members of Virginia Country Club dedicated their 2005 golf fund raising event to Mimi, a fellow member who broke ground for women at Virginia by becoming its first female member in 1994. Mimi's passion was golf, and members thought it appropriate to create a scholarship supporting an aspiring law student who reflects Mimi's dedication to the practice of law and to her great love of golf.
